Christ-minded humility isn’t the practice of making yourself less. It’s living in a way that lifts others up. We often see humility as debasing ourselves, but that’s an old way of thinking that Paul is breaking away from in Philippians. We see true humility in the life of Christ. He treasured everyone and sought to lift up others because that mattered most just as God treasures you today.

What if as a church we decided we want to become like-minded in living out how we’ve been treated by Jesus? People would then experience His encouragement, a sense of fellowship, tenderness, and compassion because it would be central. Beliefs, theology, and doctrine rarely work to center us. If we share together what Jesus gives to us we can offer that to others.

Differences between us are not bigger than the bond we share as believers in Christ. Amidst all the noise of our arguments, we lose the ability to hear the people around us and their search for unconditional love and hope. We’re never going to agree on all the details, but we can agree on a larger unifier that brings us together - Christ.

We may often hear the phrase “Churches just want your money.” How can we look at giving beyond that statement? In Romans Chapter 14, Paul describes a third way to live when disputable matters arise. We don’t have to figure out everything or try to disagree in the correct way. Following Christ in faith is all Paul says we need when lines are drawn. We don’t have to convince each other of one “right way” or argue our point. We only need to put our energy into pursuing our relationship with Jesus, allowing God to work through us, and finding the loving thing to do in the situation we face.

Oftentimes disagreements and tension can create distance and resentment between us and the relationships in our lives. In order to reconcile those meaningful relationships, we need to remember to see them as God sees them, choose to lean into the difficulty rather than avoid the discomfort, and take the vulnerable step of removing any obstacles in our power to remove.

When life can feel all tangled up there are two practical things that you can do: prayer and meditation. Prayer holds the possibility of changing you or God changing something for you. Meditation is an opportunity to pause and can pull you back to who God is and what He has for you. With both practices, you can know that whatever you face - you can always come before God and cast your cares on Him.
